4 Tips to Feel More Productive at Work

Labor Day weekend is over and it’s time to get back to the grind. Going back to work after a long holiday weekend can sometimes be hard to face, but the most successful people use a unique set of tricks to help them power through their days productively. Your job is your profession and just like any professional sport, it starts with your approach and ends with your work ethic. Get the “Monday Blues” out of your vocabulary and start approaching it with a positive attitude and use these tips to help you reach your goals.

1. Set small goals throughout the week

Set goals that you know are accomplishable! Setting large goals that aren’t realistic is an easy way to feel defeated. In order to be productive, you need to set small goals throughout the week. Doing so will not only be the best way to get things done around the office but it will leave you feeling valuable and good about what you do. Setting goals is also a great way to help you plan and priorities your day/week. Come in every Monday with a goal for the week and at least 5 mini goals for the day and you’ll start to notice the difference in your days.

2. Work on your leadership skills by helping others be successful

Working with your team should be a fulfilling experience and it can be when you help others accomplish their goals as well as yours. When you have a break in your workload, ask your team if they need assistance or teach them something new that could be valuable to them. You’re only as good as your team, so anything you can do to help them out and make them better makes you and the company a better place to be. Helping others on your team also is a great way to demonstrate your leadership skills if you’re looking for that next promotion.

3. Have a positive attitude and make a friend

Like we said earlier, keeping a positive attitude stems from setting goals, having a routine and following through. Accomplishing those goals will leave you feeling positive and productive. Another way to help you keep a positive attitude is by making a work friend. Although many people don’t go to work to make friends, it has been proven beneficial that if you build positive relationships with people at work it will leave you feeling more engaged in the workplace. Feeling enthusiastic about your work is a sign of enjoyment. The more you surround yourself with positive people who get their work done, the more it will influence you.

4. Personalize your office space

It’s a great idea to make yourself feel comfortable in your workspace, but make sure you don’t go overboard. For starters, it’s always nice to sit close to a window. Studies show that natural light from the sun helps one feel positive and productive. You can also bring in plants or flowers, pictures of family or your friends to make yourself feel more comfortable. However, investing in a standing desk is also a great tool to help your body stay healthy. Standing desks are often mandatory at some companies because it allows people to stretch their legs without leaving their work.
